Considering Therapy?

Many people I have talked to are skeptical about going to therapy. Most because they believe there is a stigma involved with seeing a counselor. Why should you attend therapy? The reasons vary:

Are you depressed, is it affecting your daily functioning? Does the way you feel worry you or your loved ones; does it interfere with your day-to-day activities? Counseling can help you learn new ways of living; it can help you understand what is behind your depression.

Do you have anxiety? There are coping skills that can help; talk therapy can allow you to understand the underlying issues causing your anxiety. Anxiety can be different for everyone, but there is help.

Do you need help with a divorce, death, or life change? Talk therapy can help you process your thoughts and feelings in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

Do you need to learn how to implement self-care? This is vital for optimal functioning. If you do not actively indulge in self-care, you will not be able to effectively care for others i.e. kids, spouse, family or job.

Talk therapy is an investment in you; it can lower stress, increase self-esteem, and promote self-awareness. Seeking counseling is beneficial for your optimal mental health.
